8th gr. Social Studies Essential Standards correlations with ITES Objective 1:1 - students construct charts and graphs - perfect for organizing infomation and using technology tools. Obj. 1:2 - 1:4 - all about using primary and seconday sources AND "gathering data from several sources" to answer question of historical signifigance, goes with both the ITES goals of Sources of Information AND the research process All Obj. use the terms "analyze" and "evaluate" which pulls in all the ITES goals by using the higher level thinking skills. these goals can be met by using appropriate resources and steps in the reseach process ( all of which involve the ITES ethical and safety objectives)

  1. I think that these Standards are so great at teaching process, process, process. I think our students need to experience learning as a process and these standards can open up our teaching to that with those higher order thinking skills!

  2. Betsy,
I like the breakdown on the specific objectives rather than focusing on an overview. It allows me to see just how detailed and well, specific, we can get in our suggestions for teachers. The active verbs that are shared between CC objectives and the ITES will also help teachers connect and relate the two areas.

  3. Betsy,

I honed in on those same comparisons you made when I looked at the 8th grade social studies standards. They lend themselves perfectly to integration with ITES and that will be so helpful when trying to encourage TRUE collaboration with 8th grade social studies teachers.
